Description:
The integral membrane protein endothelial differentiation sphingolipid G-protein-coupled receptor 6 (EDG6) is a member of the lysophospholipid/lysosphingolipid receptor family known as EDG receptors. These receptors are members of the G protein-coupled receptor superfamily. Utilized by LPA for cell signaling, EDG receptors transduce signals from LPA and S1P that stimulate ras- and rho-dependent cellular proliferation, enhance cellular survival, and suppress apoptosis and mediate diverse biologic functions such as platelet aggregation, smooth muscle contraction, inhibition of neuroblastoma cell differentiation, chemotaxis, and tumor cell invasion. Edg6 is one of S1P or lysosphingolipid receptors that couple to phospholipase C-Ca(2+) system through pertussis toxin-sensitive G-proteins.
Alternative Name(s):
endothelial differentiation G protein coupled receptor 6, LPC1, SLP4, sphingosine-1-phosphate G protein-coupled receptor 4, EDG6
