Background: Wild-type rat carboxypeptidase E (CPE), which is also known as carboxypeptidase H and enkephalin convertase, is a peripheral membrane protein which is involved in neuropeptide processing. CPE specifically binds regulated secretory pathway proteins, including prohormones, but not constitutively secreted proteins.
